Origin of the variety
Tomato Maroussia was originally bred by German breeders representing Satimex QUEDLINBURG. Her Russian representative, Agroplaneta LLC, made a request to the selection committee for permission to adapt the plant in the climatic conditions of Russia.
After approval, in 2006 it began testing and became the originator of the variety. In 2007, Maroussia tomato was listed in the state register as a variety intended for cultivation throughout the country.
Description and characteristics of tomato Maroussia
The plant is annual. Refers to mid-season determinant cultivar, which ceases its growth after the formation of the ovary with the fruit at the end of the shoot. Designed for planting in open ground and in greenhouse conditions. It tolerates summer heat and low night temperatures.
No special care required.
Appearance
It grows to a maximum of 1 m in greenhouse conditions and up to 55-85 cm in open ground.
The bush is covered with green leaves and fruits collected in clusters like grapes. During fruiting, it needs to be tied to a support.
The stem is dense, consists of 1-2 trunks. On it are cuttings with medium-large leaves of saturated green color. The structure of the leaf is pinnate. It is fleshy, divided into small lobes and covered with small hairs.
Cuttings with leaves are conveniently located. They cover the fruits from bright sunlight and exclude the occurrence of a burn, but pass enough light for the normal formation of tomatoes.
A fruit brush is formed through each leaf, starting from the sixth. On it are 4-8 small yellow flowers, which consist of a simple inflorescence.
Fruit Description
The tomato belongs to medium-fruited, weighs 60-80 g. The shape is plum-shaped, slightly elongated. The size of all fruits is almost the same.
The tomato is covered with a thin, strong skin that is not prone to cracking. The surface is smooth. The color is bright red.
Inside the fetus is divided into 2-3 chambers. The structure of the pulp is dense and fleshy. The taste is saturated. Dry matter is abundant.
The fruit of the Maroussia tomato is held tight to the bush and does not fall.
Productivity and fruiting
Harvest can be on 105-110 days after planting. The deadline may move by a week. It depends on the climate in the region and growing conditions.
From the beginning of the fruit ovary to their maturity, 1-1.5 months pass. Harvesting dates from late July to early August, depending on the length of the summer period.
From one bush collect up to 2 kg of tomatoes, and from 1 square. m to 6.9-7.5 kg. This is a good indicator for a medium fruit variety.
Harvesting can be increased if during the use of pinching or grown in favorable and stable conditions of the greenhouse.
Fields of application
Tomato Maroussia is grown for their own use and for sale. The fruits are stored for a long time, while retaining freshness, beneficial properties and taste.
They are eaten in kind and used in cooking for cooking. Juices and ketchup are prepared from them. Tomatoes do not lose their taste in canned form.
Resistance to diseases and pests
Pay attention to the following features:
- The variety is immune to fusarium wilt and verticillosis.
- When a plant is affected by a whitefly, it is treated with the special drug Confidor.
- If slugs are found on the fruit, review the frequency of watering. Dig and treat around the soil with a mixture of ash, tobacco dust and lime.
- The spider mite is excreted by spraying bushes with Karbofos.
Seed cultivation
Planting begins with the preparation and germination of seeds. This variety is not hybrid, so the seeds can be harvested from fruits from the previous harvest. Or buy at a specialty store.
You need to start germinating seeds 60-65 days before planting in a permanent place in open ground or a greenhouse. In the middle or end of March, depending on the length of the summer season.
Seed preparation
Includes their processing. First you need to select the most viable seeds that will give a good harvest. The selection process takes place in a specially prepared liquid.
In a glass of water, add a pinch of salt, place the seeds and mix thoroughly. Leave on for a few minutes. As a result, all empty seeds should emerge.
Next, they are disinfected. For a quick procedure, prepare a weak solution of manganese. Place the seeds there for 20-30 minutes.
In order to improve germination, to create stable immunity in a young seedling, and in an adult plant to increase productivity, prepare the following solution:
- dilute baking soda;
- add 4 drops of Fitosporin and aloe plant juice;
- put the seeds in the composition overnight.
The solution also provides disinfection.
Acquired seeds do not need processing.
Seeds must be hardened. They are wrapped in wet gauze and placed in the refrigerator for a day.
Sowing seeds
For planting you will need a small capacity in the form of a wooden box or peat cup.
The composition of the soil should be light and contain organic matter. Land is purchased finished or made independently. Harvesting begins 2 weeks before use.
To prepare the soil you will need:
- 2 parts of turf land;
- 1 part each: sand, ash, rotted manure and peat.
After that, the earth is disinfected by calcination in the oven and impregnated with a solution of manganese. The soil is dried and placed in cellophane. Cleaned in a dark place to restore useful microflora.
Sequential planting steps:
- fill the container 2/3 with soil;
- put 2-3 seeds in one place;
- observe the distance between the seeds of 3 cm;
- sprinkle with a layer of earth;
- moisten the soil with a spray gun;
- cover with plastic wrap.
Place the containers in a dark place. Ambient temperature should be around +25 C.

Seedling care
After 4-7 days, seedlings appear. The container with herbs is transferred to a cooler place for hardening. The temperature should not fall below 16 C. For this, a balcony, porch or other similar room is suitable.
The film must be removed gradually to give the shoots time to get used to the new temperature. Start with 2-3 hours in the daytime and gradually increase it.
Ambient temperature should not be high. Otherwise, the seedlings will begin to grow actively. This will lead to poor adaptation and survival of the plant after transplantation.
Seedling care includes:
- Lighting. Good growth is provided by constant natural light for at least 16 hours a day. If there is a deficiency in it, you need to extend the daylight hours with the help of artificial lamps.
- Watering. Irrigate the soil under the young shoots from the spray gun.
- Top dressing. 2 weeks after the emergence of seedlings, make the first top dressing. To do this, use slightly diluted natural organics in the form of manure or bird droppings.
When caring for gentle seedlings, try to prevent moisture from entering the leaves.
Transplanting seedlings
The next step in nursing seedlings is picking. The process of transplanting young sprouts into a large capacity of 200-500 ml. It is carried out on day 8-14, when two leaves appear in the plant.
This procedure can be neglected if the seeds were originally planted in separate large cups. Then for full growth they have enough space and there is no contact with the leaves of a neighboring shoot.
The sprout is transplanted into the soil with the same composition as for seed germination. Seedlings need to be taken with a clod of earth around the roots. You can use a small spoon to dig up.
Be sure to quench. This is done 2-3 weeks before transplanting into open ground. It is necessary to take out sprouts daily to fresh air. Start with 5-10 minutes and gradually increase the time.
Gradually, the seedlings should be tempered enough so that the last few nights are in the open air and not freeze.
Outdoor cultivation
Seedlings at the age of about 1.5 months are planted in open space in late April or early May. The exact time depends on the region and temperature. Proper observance of the conditions and rules for planting ensures a good future crop.
Outdoor cultivation conditions
The weather should stabilize, and the temperature at night should not fall below 15-16 C. Even short-term frosts can destroy young shoots.
The surface soil layer to 25 cm deep should warm up to 16-18 C.
Plant a tomato when there is almost no sun. Better in the morning or evening. It is advisable that in the following days the sun also does not shine brightly or it does not exist at all.

Soil and fertilizer
A tomato grows better if carrots, legumes, zucchini or cruciferous ones grew before it in the same place. The soil must be prepared and fertilized in advance in the fall.
In the spring, dig a bed to a depth of 15 cm and add organic fertilizer in the form of plant compost or ripened humus 1-2 weeks before planting. Also, for additional saturation of the soil, mineral ones are also suitable. The fertilizers mixed well with the ground. After all, be sure to water.
You can not use manure, it can burn through the fragile root system.
The day before planting, irrigate to completely saturate the soil with moisture.
Seedling Selection
It is worth making a selection. A young plant must be healthy. To have many juicy, saturated green leaves on a thick and strong stem and the root is fully developed. Seedlings should have the first flower brush before opening the bud.
If the weather has not yet settled, and a flower stalk has appeared on the seedlings, it must be gently nipped off.
Landing
Tomato planted in rows. The distance between them is 65-75 cm. The row consists of holes located 40-60 cm from each other. The depth of the hole is 15-20 cm and the width is 10-15 cm.
Step-by-step process:
- In the prepared hole, place the seedlings together with a lump of earth 1-2 cm deeper than the level of its growth in the tank.
- Sprinkle with soil and pour liberally with warm, settled water.
- For each well in advance, prepare a strong support, in the form of a wooden stake, to tie the plant as it grows. Place it at a distance of 7-9 cm from the future bush.
When planting a plant in the hole, you can slightly shorten the main root. There will be a stimulation to the growth of lateral roots. In the future, the tomato trunk will be stronger.
Care Features
This tomato variety does not require much difficulty in care. All actions should be aimed at forming a bush, timely watering and soil care.
Watering
Basic watering rules:
- Irrigation of the soil should be regular. Do not let it dry out or create stagnation.
- Use only warm and settled water.
- Water in the morning or evening hours.
- Direct a stream of water only under the root. In no case should it fall on the leaves.
The need for watering is easily determined by the drying of the topsoil. A lack of moisture during the ripening period of the fruit can lead to a reduction in size and cracking.
Soil cultivation and weeding
After each irrigation of the soil, it must be loosened in order to restore air penetration. And at the same time pull out weeds that take useful substances from the soil from the tomato and are the cause of the onset of diseases.
To better maintain moisture, especially in the summer, you can mulch with straw or sawdust.
Stepson and garter
Pasynkovka - timely removal of lateral processes to increase productivity. In Tomato Marousi, it is worthwhile to remove only those branches that are located below the first flower brush.
It is also useful to cut the leaves in the lower trunk of the bush to allow air circulation.
Garter is needed to help the plant during fruiting. As soon as an ovary begins to appear on the bush with a bunch of first fruits, it is worthwhile to carry out the first garter.
The tree trunk is neatly fixed to the support in 2-3 places. As the plants grow and develop, their binding levels change.
Top dressing
Tomato during growth actively absorbs useful components from the soil and quickly depletes it. Also, the formation and ripening of fruits occurs in a short time and it is at this time that the plant especially needs additional nutrition.
Two weeks after planting the tomato in the open ground, you need to carry out the first top dressing. Bird droppings or mullens are good.
The second top dressing should be carried out in 10-14 days. Feed with prepared mineral fertilizers or prepare the mixture yourself.
Take 10 liters of water:
- 60 g of superphosphate;
- 1 g of boric acid;
- 25 g of ammonium nitrate;
- 15 g of potassium salt.
The following dressings are applied every two weeks. You can use yeast containing phosphorus or potassium. Only you can not use nitrogen, which leads to the active growth of greenery.
Disease and Pest Prevention
It is advisable, in order to prevent, to inspect the mulch for the appearance of slugs in it. Also periodically spray the bush. To do this, use a soap solution. But it can not be used if the plant is less than a month and a half from the moment of its planting. If necessary, the frequency of spraying is every 2-3 weeks. Prevention is completed 1 month before harvest.
From fungal diseases, spraying with whey with the addition of 1-2 drops of iodine will help.
Or use the ready-made remedy Fitosporin. It will protect the plant from bacterial diseases.
Harvesting and storage
The fruit is removed from the bush as soon as it has ripened. The degree of maturity is determined by saturated staining in bright red color.
With an early cold snap, all tomatoes are necessarily harvested, otherwise they will disappear. If some fruits are not ripe, they must be placed in a warm, lit place.
Ripe fruits are stored for no more than 2 weeks. Unripe up to 3 weeks.
Storage rules for tomatoes:
- Do not use the refrigerator (its aroma decreases at low temperatures).
- Remove all dry leaves from the fruit.
- Put in one layer on a wooden or plastic pallet.
- Place dry sawdust under and between the fruits.
- The room is dry and dark.
To speed up the ripening of some harvested tomatoes, they should be placed next to the ripened.
